Ventilation

Hospital ventilation, also called mechanical ventilation or invasive ventilation, is a medical procedure used to help a patient with limited or no breathing. Ventilation may be necessary for a variety of diseases or conditions, such as severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), lung damage from smoke or gases, or acute worsening of a chronic lung disease such as COPD.

During ventilation, a ventilator is used to pump air into the patient’s lungs and remove carbon dioxide from the lungs. The ventilator tube is placed on the face with a mask for “non-invasive” ventilation and inserted through the patient’s mouth or nose into the trachea. Ventilation is usually given for a set period of time, depending on the patient’s needs, and may also be combined with other medical interventions such as oxygen therapy, medications and physical therapy.

FISSO Articulated arm in the Ventilation

The FISSO respiratory systems were developed in close cooperation with the University Hospital Zurich. The purely mechanical central clamping unit allows easy and fast alignment and safe holding of breathing tubes.
